Commit-to-it Forms Turn Training into Action

Within our training programmes, we use Commit-to-it Forms. These forms, completed by participants directly following their training, is designed for participants to formally commit to specific actions after the session. There is a clear need for such a form in leadership training for several reasons:

1. Accountability and Commitment

The form asks participants to list three key actions they commit to do as a result of the training. This process encourages leaders to take ownership of their development and hold themselves accountable for implementing the lessons they’ve learned. By writing down specific actions, participants are more likely to follow through and make measurable changes in their leadership approach.

2. Clear Outcomes and Results

The form also asks for the outcomes of these actions, which provides a built-in system for tracking the success of the implementation. This follow-up encourages leaders to reflect on their progress and assess whether their actions have led to the desired results. It shifts the focus from learning to real-world impact, ensuring that the training leads to tangible improvements.

3. Involvement of Managers

The form allows for the sharing of the participant’s commitments and outcomes with their manager. This ensures that leadership development is integrated into the broader organizational context, with managers providing support and oversight. Having a manager aware of and involved in the process increases accountability and offers additional guidance for the leader to stay on track.

4. Personalized Action Plan

The structure of the form promotes the creation of a personalized action plan, which makes leadership training more relevant to each participant. Generic training can often fail because it doesn’t connect directly to the individual’s daily responsibilities. By requiring participants to specify actions they will take, the form helps to bridge the gap between theory and practical application.

In summary, our commit form ensures that leadership training is actionable, measurable, and aligned with both the individual’s growth and organizational objectives.
